Yusen Logistics Co., Ltd. (President: Hiromitsu Kuramoto) made arrangements for the transport of emergency relief supplies offered from the United States through the intermediary of the Japan Forum for Strategic Studies (Chairman: Kazuo Aichi, former member of the House of Representatives in the Japanese Diet).
International aid is being offered from many different countries to the regions devastated by the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake, in various forms. In this context, the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), an affiliate of the Federal Emergency Management Agency of the United States (FEMA), shipped emergency relief supplies from Chicago to Japan by way of the Japan Forum for Strategic Studies. We made arrangements for export and import procedures in the United States and Japan.
The relief supplies transported absorb radioactive substances, solidifying after they are sprayed on contaminated facilities and fixtures. As they can be peeled off like film in their hardened state, it is possible to dispose of the absorbed radioactive substances at safe disposal facilities. They will be used at hospitals and other institutions for decontamination purposes.
We will continue to make every possible effort to assist in the recovery
in any way we can. We offer our heartfelt condolences and sympathies
to the disaster victims and their families, and our sincere wishes for
the earliest possible recovery of the affected areas.
The meeting held in YLK Head Office, 8th April.
