China joined the WTO in December 2001 and assured full implementation of the TRIPS agreement beginning from its entry in the WTO in response to strong demand from major countries who consider the rampant counterfeiting of goods a serious problem and who undertook a significant review of domestic law to ensure consistency with the TRIPS agreement.
