(Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights)

Marrakesh agreements adopted in April 1994 in Marrakesh, Morocco as the results of the GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade) Uruguay Round Negotiations started in September 1986.

The contents of the TRIPS agreements are as follows.


 1. Observation of provisions relating to the protection under the Berne Convention
 2. Protection based on the copyright of computer programs and databases
 3. Conferring of rights relating to the rental of computer programs, films and phonograms
 4. Protection of performers, producers of phonograms, and broadcasting organizations

* The Berne Convention = established in 1886 mainly among European countries under the principle that no formalities are required for the accrual of copyright. The latest version after several amendments is the Berne Convention Paris text.
