Summary
Mechanical and electrical products mean machinery and equipment, electric equipment, traffic vehicles, electric and electronic products, and measuring equipment and parts, elements, and devices thereof. China implemented the administrative measures in January 2002, classified the mechanical and electrical products into two categories using the HS code, i.e., import prohibited and automatic import licensing and strictly controls their import. If any product falls under the category of either import prohibited or import restricted products, the import of such products is prohibited or not allowed for import into the mainland China unless predefined procedures are followed.

Mainly secondhand products. Approximately 70 items including boilers, burners, medical devices and instruments, game machines, engines, vehicles, etc. |
| Automatic import licensing : |
A wide variety of more than 800 HS codes fall under this category. The mechanical and electrical products under the automatic import licensing system are determined by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China. The importer should apply for and obtain the automatic Import License from the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China or the departmental mechanical and electrical products office of the local responsible departments for foreign trade and economics and then arrange for customs clearance. Automatic import licensing means the import licensing granted to all applications filed (except in the case where there is a flaw in the application documents or the contents thereof) and not operated in such a manner as to create a restrictive effect. |
